With its unique access and touching personal stories, the film follows the daily routine of patients and medical practitioners in the Covid-19 infectious ward of a Kyustendil hospital. It is a profound documentary observation on the pandemic with delicate character-driven scenes. The directors spent seventy days in the Intensive Care Unit, sometimes even serving as medical assistants. The production was almost entirely self-financed.

ILIAN METEV directed the documentaries ‘Goleshovo’ (2008) and ‘Sofia’s Last Ambulance’ (2012), and the fictional film ‘3/4’ (2017). His work has received over forty-five awards, at festivals in Cannes, Locarno and Karlovy Vary, among others. Since 2019, he has taught at the National Film and Television School, England.
IVAN CHERTOV was the Director of Photogrpahy of various feature and documentary films. ‘Auf Weidersehen’, his first short film as a cinematographer, won him the Best Live Action Short Award at the 2015 Warsaw Film Festival. His debut feature (‘February’) was inluded in the official selection of the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. ‘A Provincial Hospital’ is his full-length directorial debut.

ZLATINA TENEVA graduated in 2018 with a BA in Journalism from St Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia, Bulgaria. Since then, she has worked as a director, line producer and researcher on numerous film projects for ARTE and Deutsche Welle. In 2020, she was selected for the DOC Campus documentary workshop, organised by DOK Leipzig. ‘A Provincial Hospital’ is her full-length directorial debut.
