The two-part documentary, ‘Geshev’s Web’ and ‘Geshev’s Riddle’, retraces the fate of Tsarist police officer Nikola Geshev, chief of the political police until 1944. Geshev is one of Bulgaria’s unsolved mysteries. He disappeared on 9 September 1944, as did his entire archive and the files of all 196 of his agents. All track of him was lost for 78 years—until now. Based on previously unknown facts and documents, the films present a completely new version of Geshev’s life following his disappearance.

BOGDANA LAZAROVA is the writer and executive producer of ‘The Traces Remain’, the only investigative journalism programme on Bulgarian National Television. Part of her career was also devoted to Darik Radio, where she produced the investigative programme, ‘Affair’ (2006–11). She has published three books of investigative journalism: ‘Affair’ (2006), ‘State Security Services and the Vanished Treasures’ (2010) and ‘That List: the First Defeat of Intelligence’ (2011). Bogdana Lazarova has won nine awards and has eight nominations for prizes for her journalistic activities. She is a winner of the Investigative Journalism Prize of the Radostina Konstantinova Foundation.
