In the spring of 2023, a journalist from Bulgaria was allowed to cross to the other side of the front. Martin Georgiev had already visited Odessa, Mykolaiv, and Kyiv at the beginning of the war, when all Ukrainians were fleeing in the opposite direction. Even back then, he wanted to see the other side – Russia, Donetsk, and why not Mariupol.
